Carolyn Bryant is a certified public accountant licensed in California and Texas. A native of Southern California, she received her MBA at California State University Fullerton and passed the CPA exam in May 2000, earning the Elijah Watt Sells award for her score. Currently, she lives in a small Texas town near Austin and runs a tax practice there. She belongs to several non-profit organizations, and supports the local elementary school through Reading Is Fundamental and with donations of books and school supplies.

Hello! My name is Yannis and I am currently a senior. I graduated from the International School of Los Angeles and really enjoyed my time immersed in French culture.At my current school, I am taking all IB/AP classes. My favorite subjects are languages (Spanish and French), History, and English.At school, I am the president of the French Club, in which we learn and spread french culture. I am also heavily involved in my school’s MUN program, practicing my speech/debate skills and learning about the world’s issues. Some of my hobbies include going to the gym, producing music, and exploring new hikes.I have always enjoyed helping others with homework, whether it was my friends or other peers. Being a part of Oui Tutor is a unique opportunity that has allowed me to do something I am good at, while also doing something that I love and feel good about.I hope to be able to help all the wonderful kids out there in learning about French or any other subject!

Hi! My name is Simone Aitken-Penn and I am the co-CEO of Oui Tutor. This is my third year as a tutor and my second year on the board. I graduated from the International School of OC in 2021 and I am still close with my fellow alumni. 

In addition to my work with Oui Tutor, I am a Varsity girls golf player and a Girl Scout Ambassador. I also served as president of the French Honor Society and the Oui Tutor Club at my high school while enrolled in the International Baccalaureate program.

My time as a board member has taught me valuable leadership, management, and communication skills. While working with my fellow tutors, I’ve learned how to effectively guide our organization and support Oui Tutor’s mission. My involvement as a board member and tutor has deepened my appreciation for community service and the impact we can have on students’ lives

Hi! I’m Sara Farnoush and I’m the co-CEO of Oui Tutor. I’m a junior in high school and I love teaching kids. I’ve been a part of Oui Tutor for 3 years now, and I appreciate how much it builds my leadership and management skills while letting me connect with the students. I’m an IB student with many APs, but my schedule is flexible for tutoring. Outside of school, I’m in track and field, mock trial, and Girl Scouts, as well as many other clubs. I’ve been around kids a lot with camp counseling and my previous tutoring experience, so I’ve learned that even with its challenges, helping kids understand material and concepts is very rewarding. Hi! I’m Daniel Yoon and I’m CFO of Oui Tutor. This is my third year at Oui Tutor. I am a senior and I am currently president of my school’s French Club I’m super involved with Model UN where I enjoy debating about global politics. I have a strong passion for philosophy, politics, and literature. I’ve passed the DELF C1 certification and I am enrolled in all AP and IB courses. Outside of school, I currently work as an ice hockey referee. I enjoy playing varsity ice hockey, snowboarding, writing, and hanging out with my friends. I love tutoring because I love helping kids grow confidence in their studies and I always learn new things from my students too. Super hyped for this year!

Hi! I'm Maddie Chao, and I'm the vice president and social media chair of Oui Tutor. I'm a senior in high school and this is my fourth year with Oui Tutor, and my third on the board. I'm currently enrolled in many AP and honors courses, and I'm passionate about helping young kids succeed in the classroom. I attended the International School of Orange County for 11 years and am studying both Spanish and French in high school. I am fluent in French, having passed the DELF B2, as well as the AP French and Spanish exams.  

 

Outside of school, I'm a Level 10 Junior-Olympic gymnast, as well as the Director of Design of my grade’s current event online newspaper, Our Generation. I have become experienced in working with kids through tutoring students of diverse ages as well as coaching gymnastics. I love getting to know each student personally and watching them grow to achieve their goals. I can’t wait for our first session!

Hi, I’m Cait Calvert. This is my first year on the board and I am a part of the social media team for OuiTutor. I’m a senior involved in film and my school’s swim and dive team. I have maintained a 4.2 GPA throughout all my years of high school, something I’m extremely proud of. I’m also a gymnastics coach for young kids between the ages of 1 and a half to 12. I am also a leader for Sunday life groups for kids 4th and 5th grade at my local church. I am constantly working with kids and have developed a good sense of understanding and meeting their needs. Hi! I am Joyce Rizko. This is my third year volunteering at OuiTutor, and I am also an executive board member working as the communications secretary. Currently, I am a senior and take multiple rigorous classes to pursue my future in STEM. At school, my extracurriculars include many literature-based clubs, in which I hold leadership positions.

In the fall, I also managed the girl’s volleyball team and plan to do the same with the beach volleyball team in the spring. Outside of school, I spend my time crocheting and enjoying time with my family. Having studied at the French school, LILA, I can speak French fluently. CrossCourt Law was founded in Lake Forest by Michaël Fischer (pronounced Mikel) to better handle companies’ and institutions’ day-to-day legal needs.  Michaël was born and raised in France, graduated summa cum laude from undergraduate school, and earned his law degree from the University of Southern California in 1997. Michaël guided our team (in French none-the-less) through the legal process of of becoming a recognized nonprofit in the state of CA.  We are in the process of getting our IRS 501 (c) 3 approval..  Merci!

As one of the founding members, past co-CEOs, Head of the Legal Department, and tutors of Oui Tutor, she dedicated her time into running meetings, drafting the organization’s bylaws with an attorney, designing Oui Tutor’s logo, writing its curriculum for the students, helping form its website, making flyers for marketing purposes, increasing Instagram following by 400% within a matter of hours, having the expansion idea, and much more. Hi! My name is Sophie Semaan, and I’m the Secretary for OUI Tutor. This is my third year with Oui Tutor and I’m a junior in high school. I’m a part of the International Baccalaureate program. I was a student at the Lycée International in Los Angeles, a French school, for nine years and I passed the DELF A1, A2, B1, and B2. I volunteer part-time at the local library assisting and conducting many academic activities for kids. I’m very involved in extracurriculars such as dance, choir,  the school’s fashion magazine, and French club, and I’m a six time MVP medalist in mock trial. I also teach younger students how to dance. I’m also a member of the national honor society and french honors society.  I’m the CEO of the Oui Tutor Canyon chapter and Vice President of the French Club. Oui Tutor has taught me so much about working in teams and building an understanding of how non-profit organizations work. I’ve been involved with teaching kids for five years now, and I’m really passionate about it. Hi! My name is Charly De Guzman and I’ve been a tutor for Oui Tutor for around a year now. I’ve been able to make an impact on students’ lives by being a guiding figure for not only educational obstacles but also personal life challenges that I share advice for. It’s always a joy to work with students and see them thrive!

 

Outside of tutoring, I keep myself busy with school, work, and other extracurriculars. I’m currently a high school senior and take AP and IB classes to challenge myself with intense coursework. I am also a part-time assistant at Eye Level, a supplemental learning center for students. At school, I make an effort to get involved as the President of our Voters of Tomorrow Club, Co-President of our National Alliance on Mental Illness Club, Vice President of our Oui Tutor Club, and Co-Publicist of our Filipino Culture Club.

I’m also an associate with the Voters of Tomorrow California Chapter, completing volunteer work and helping with the organization’s activities. I use my free time to enjoy my hobbies, like playing the drums, graphic design, and collecting vinyl records.

Hello, I’m Adrian, a junior at Fairmont Preparatory Academy, where I’m enrolled in the

Advanced Science &; Engineering Program and pursuing the International Baccalaureate Diploma. My academic journey has taken me through French schools in California (LILA),

Paris, and Slovakia, where I earned the Brevet des Collèges with High Honors at Collège/Lycée

La Tour in Paris. I have a deep appreciation for languages and the way they open doors to new

ideas and perspectives. I’m also passionate about math and science: I’ve competed in science

fairs, coded in Python and JavaScript, and I enjoy breaking down tough problems so they

actually make sense. When I’m not studying, you’ll probably find me on the tennis court (I’ve

played competitively since I was 7 and currently serve as Varsity Team Captain) or at the piano

Hi, my name is Sacha, and I am currently a senior at Legacy Magnet Academy. This is my second year working with OuiTutor, and I am excited to mentor younger children and promote their academic success. In my free time, I enjoy DJing, skateboarding, and playing soccer. Hi! My name is Taylor, and I’m currently a junior at Canyon High School. This is my second year as part of Oui Tutor, and I’m so excited to continue helping students grow both academically and personally. I’ve always been passionate about learning and supporting others in reaching their full potential, and I look forward to making a positive impact this year.

At school, I’m actively involved in a variety of programs that reflect my dedication to leadership and community. I’m a member of the Girls’ Tennis Team and the Ambassador Program, and I currently serve as President of the Caring Hearts Club, where we volunteer at senior homes. I also serve as a board member for several other organizations, including Humanity First, Key Club, and the Filipino Culture Club.

Outside of school, I’m deeply involved in my church community as an altar server, choir member, and part of the Youth Ministry San Antonio Leadership Team. These roles have taught me the importance of compassion, teamwork, and service; values that guide how I approach tutoring and mentorship. Academically, I love challenging myself with rigorous coursework and exploring new subjects. I believe that learning should be engaging, encouraging, and empowering, and I strive to create that same environment for every student I work with. I’m truly looking forward to another amazing year with Oui Tutor!

Hello everyone! My name is Aritri, and I am a senior at University High School, where I am enrolled in a multitude of AP courses (both STEM and Humanities). I am also quite involved in school clubs, where I am William Kerr, the president of Crochet for Care, the vice president and co-founder of our French Club, and a commissioner for my school’s Academic Decathlon. If you see me around, don’t hesitate to say hi! Right now, I am on the Oui Tutor Board, and as some of you may recognize me, I am on the Volunteer Training Team. 

 

In my free time, when I am not studying for the Academic Decathlon or playing my viola or planning entrepreneur fairs, you can find me spending time with my family, reading books, or watching documentaries on historical events. I decided to join Oui Tutor because I have a passion for education.

 

Since I was young, my family placed a huge emphasis on education and the opportunities it brings, and as I grew up, I saw that not everyone gets the same opportunities, and it made me sad. We are the future, and we all deserve the power of knowledge. I wanted to help inspire the future generation, and that is why I hope I can see you in our next session!

Meet Our Board

OUR STORY

The “OUI” in our name is French for “YES” and is pronounced in English as “WE.”  What’s with the French connection?  Oui Tutor’s roots rest with six graduates of the International School of Orange County (ISOC), a French immersion program.

In September 2020, when COVID forced the shutdown of the after-school homework program at ISOC, six young graduates proposed virtual tutoring as a means of support.  ISOC parents loved the offer of help, and Oui Tutor was formed as “Virtual French Tutoring.”  Charging a nominal fee for their time, the tutors donated all proceeds back to ISOC.

When in-person learning returned, the demand for virtual tutoring by ISOC dropped but the leadership team still felt that there was merit in quality, affordable virtual tutoring.  The team began offering French and English tutoring to high school students and re-branded as Oui Tutor.

In the Spring of 2022, the Oui Tutor team saw an opportunity to partner with a Title One school that was seeking tutors.  Dr. Schroeder and the Vibrant Minds Academy team were receptive and excited about a pilot program allowing Oui Tutor to virtually meet kids during after-school homework time.  The pilot program was a success! Currently, Oui Tutor offers up to 80 homework sessions a week.

Oui Tutor has trained over 100 tutors, has two areas of service (ISOC and Vibrant Minds), and has logged over 1000 one-on-one tutoring sessions. With an all-high school Board and a team of Advisory Board Members, Oui Tutor continues to grow, train future leaders, and expand a love of learning.
